About This Blog

What it is...

An outlet for my views.   It's that simple.   Mostly of the LIBERAL/progressive slant.

It recognizes that LIBERALISM is not the exclusive purview of a political party or organization, much as Conservatism crosses party lines, as well (see: Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson).

It recognizes that the basic tenets that created this country's foundation - government by the consent of the governed, representative democracy, unalienable rights recognized and guaranteed by a constitution - were LIBERAL ideas that took shape during the Enlightenment period, not conservative.

It recognizes that to be LIBERAL doesn't necessarily mean anti-capitalist.    I don't want the government making my shoes or TVs, for example.    But it does mean, to me at least, that the economy and the marketplace exist to serve and benefit the people - all of the people, not just the top 1%.   To this end, the marketplace needs regulation, much as a sporting contest requires rules to ensure fair play on all sides.

Why it is...

...because rights need to be exercised, like muscles - you lose them if you don't use them.

Besides providing political, media, and social commentary with a LIBERAL slant (yes, I'm capitalizing the word on purpose.  See above.), this blog seeks to provide exposure to other media outlets that share the same basic values.   Because of their LIBERAL bias, they typically don't have corporate backing (or if so, extremely limited), so they rely on listener/reader/viewer support through donations, podcast purchases/subscriptions, and so on.

Who it is...

This blog's proprietor:

>>Was born in the late 1960s - likely conceived during the "Summer of Love",
>>Carries as many labels on his proverbial travel case as a globetrotting jet setter: employee (union and otherwise), musician, writer, erstwhile journalist, adoptee, student, rebel, motorcyclist, erstwhile photographer, LIBERAL, and many, many others stuck on there by myself and others - some complimentary, some not so much.   Some deserved, some not so much.
>>Most of all, a concerned citizen/voter/taxpayer with every intention to use the first amendment guarantee of free expression, for as long as we have that right and we have a working constitution.

I’ve taken a break from blogging over the last several months, in large part because of a deluge of things that have happened in my life.  ...
